A vintage "saved from the rains" thanks to the grapes' thick skins and good phenolic concentration. A fine, elegant wine with very good aromatic complexity

Mild. Bud burst was early but uneven.

May and June hot and dry. Rapid and even flowering, under good conditions. Mid point of flowering June 6th.

Alternating periods of hot and cool weather in July. Very hot August. The grapes changed colour swiftly and uniformly. Mid point of changing colour August 8th.

The grapes were healthy with a good level of maturity. Harvest from September 25th.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HHHH "Overt, cedar and cigar-box nose. Rounded, spicy and quite developed on the palate. Concentrated, but not a huge wine."

Serena Sutcliffe - Tasting Notes - April 1999
"Rosy, violetty scent, typical of the best Pauillac properties in this year. Lots of pretty fruit. A touch herbaceous on the finish. Aftertaste of prunes and vanilla pod."

James Seely - Great Bordeaux Wines - November 1997
"Deep ruby. Open nose with good fruit and some leather. An elegant wine, with lots of feminine charm, pleasing fruit and quite good structure for the vintage."

Institute of Masters of Wine - November 1997
"Mid-deep garnet body. Mid-ruby rim. Stylish, coffee, tobacco and chocolate aromas. Ripe fruit on the palate, with dry minerally tannins following through. Long and complete on the finish."
