A richly flavoured wine with considerable freshness, supported by a silky and elegant structure. A classic Pauillac.

Mild, almost too warm and rainy.

Very rainy. Two enormous storms with hail at the end of June. Flowering was very drawn out June 6th to 27th.

August was hot and sunny. Mid point of changing colour August 17th.

High temperatures. A good amount of sunshine, with some weak drizzle. Excellent level of maturity in the grapes. Harvest from October 1st to 15th.

Robert Parker - Bordeaux - November 1998
"Dark ruby, with a full-intensity bouquet of new oak, black fruits, vaillin, and spring flowers, this silky smooth, full bodied 1988 has excellent extraction of fruit, plenty of glycerin, and a sense of elegance. Seductively precocious, it should drink superbly over the next 10-15 years. 90/100."

DECANTER AWARD WINNER ***** "Whopping, multi dimentional scent with intense cedar aromas. Very ripe palate; damp leaf flavours and good structure."

James Seely - Great Bordeaux Wines - November 1997
"Excellent deep red, no trace of browning. Nose a bit shy, but everything is there. Classic Pichon Longueville Lalande, just beginning to emerge; finesse and elegance, and the necessary structure to last for years."
