Robert Parker - Bordeaux - November 1998
"An excellent 1978 (one of the top wines of the vintage), Pichon-Lalande's offering displays an aromatic profile consisting of roasted herbs, chocolate, cedar, tobacco, and ripe currnaty fruit. Medium-bodied, with low acidity, some tannin, and a round attractive personality, this wine has reached its plateau of maturity, where it should remain for another decade. 92/100"

Serena Sutcliffe – Sotheby's Tasting notes – April 1995
"This has always been a favourite in the vintage. The colour is deep but mature and the bouquet is complex and concentrated, with the aromatic intensity of the vintage. Beautiful fruit, breed and class on the palate, with great persistence. A huge success."

Clive Coates - Grands Vins - 1995
"Good colour. More intense in the middle but more evolved at the rim than the 1979. More evolved on the nose as well, but richer and more concentrated. Good depth here. Fullish, ample ripe tannins. Very good concentration. This will still improve. Very good grip. Fine plus. Very lovely fruit. Very complex. Marvellous finish."
