A very good quality vintage. A year of considerable finesse. A well balanced wine that is supple, smooth, fat, and very long.

Poor weather. Very rainy.

Successful flowering. No coulure Mid-point of flowering June 4th

Apart from a couple of storms in July, very hot and dry. The driest summer for the past 35 years. Virtually no rain between March and September. Mid-point of changing colour August 7th.

Some showers, average temperatures. Very early harvest. Small berries and a small crop due to the lack of rain. Merlots were picked in lovely conditions. Harvest from September 13th.

Robert Parker - Bordeaux - November 1998
"…Lacking the concentration and character of the best years, this wine is, nevertheless, highly successful for the vintage. The colour is medium ruby, with some brown and amber at the edges. A gentle, suave, interesting, mature bouquet and soft, round, curranty flavours have provided pleasure since the late seventies. Yet the wine refuses to fade. Still at its peak."

Serena Sutcliffe – Sotheby's Tasting notes – April 1995
"Mature, ripe nose, with that touch of roast prues associated with this hot summer. Well balanced and giving great pleasure in the nineties, as the furit and structure are both much in evidence."

Clive Coates - Grands Vins - 1995
"Fullish, quite vigorous, mature nose. No undue brown. Sweetish on the nose. Chocolate blancmange and cooked plums. Not too dry or at all coarse. This is an attractive 1976 which is holding up well. Medium-full. Good grip. Really quite classy. Plenty of fruit. Good backbone. Finishes positively."
