A small harvest due to the heat and drought of the summer. The sun had cooked the skins, thus producing wines rich in colour and tannins. Without doubt a wine of very high quality. A great success. Supple and voluptuous, with well-integrated tannins.

Mild, favourable conditions despite the heavy rain.

Mild and warm, although some cold, rainy spells. Flowering under good conditions.

Very hot and dry, with some welcome showers just before the harvest.

Several hail storms, but generally dry. Harvest from September 26th in dry and sunny conditions. (Severe hail storms in other appellations)

Robert Parker - Bordeaux - November 1998
"…This is still an excellent claret, with classic, cedary, curranty fruit, combined with herbs and spices. Medium bodied, with some sweetness on the attack, the wine narrows out and tastes more compressed and compact after it sits in the glass for 5-10 minutes. I would opt for drinking it over the next 5-6 years. At a tasting in Spring 1998, the wine performed exquisitely, making me think that well-stored bottles of this vintage may be undervalued."

Serena Sutcliffe – Sotheby's Tasting notes – April 1995
"This is a wine to be reckoned with, with more Cabernet and less Merlot than usual, allied to the power of the year. It has complex fruit and imposing aromatic weight which carry it over the tannins. Sometimes those tannins have been dry, as so often at this epoch, but nearly always the extract in the wine carries it through. It will evolve further in grand style."

Clive Coates - Grands Vins - 1995
"Full colour. Only just mature. Unexpectedly ripe - mulberry fruit - and concentrated and generous on the nose. Not a bit hard and tannic…Fullish, very good grip. Very good concentration too. Very well-balanced. Unexpectedly harmonious. Ripe and classy. Fat. Evolved well in the glass. Even better than the 1978. Excellent."
