Since
the end of the 1970's, the reputation of Chateau Pichon Longueville
Comtesse de Lalande has acquired the status of a "super second"
and a "nearly first", in light of the consistency of its
quality. The key word in this success is selection, from the period
of the grape harvest to, above all, the preparation of the cuvee.
Constant attention is paid to the vine to ensure the grape reaches
perfect maturity in the most optimal sanitary conditions.
Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande remains faithful
to the tradition of hand picking during the harvests. Every year
more than one hundred people - often the same families from Andalusia
- pick the grapes in accordance with their maturity and the age
of the parcel of land: The Merlot, an early grape, begins the harvests,
the Cabernet and the Petit Verdot, late varieties, close the harvests.
A very rigorous selection is carried out among the vines and later
in the receiving bin.
