Sotheby´s - Auction in London, Wednesday November 12th, 2008 at 2:30pm – St George Street Gallery
SOTHEBY’ S Finest and Rarest Wines featuring Treasures from the cellars of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
This sale will offer a unique selection of wines from the cellar of the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande including magnums of 1945,1947,1959,1961 vintage… and bottles from 1908,1914,1917,1923,1926 … and many other vintages from the 40s, to the 2000s.
The bottles were inspected in situ by Sotheby´s experts in June 2008 and all the wines were carefully selected. Unless indicated otherwise in the catalogue all bottles pre 1982 vintage have been reconditioned. The majority are offered in original wooden presentation cases. These were specially ordered and packed by the Château for this auction.
Today, the credit for Pichon Lalande´s great success and style can be attributed without any doubt to one person, Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing who took the helm at the estate in 1978, and has overseen the production of one stunning wine after the next. In 2007 she sold this great property of formidable reputation to another family-owned French institution, Louis Roederer Champagne. Like the famed Virginie, Comtesse de Lalande who gave the château its name, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing is already a legend in her own life-time and it is a pleasure for Sotheby’s Wine Department to dedicate this sale to one of the greatest “Ladies of the Vine”.
